In Episode 96 of the Orange Cactus Coffee Podcast, Mike and I talked about our visit to The Porch. It’s a newer coffee shop in Prescott that shares a space with a church. We really enjoyed the great service and the lively atmosphere. We also ran into some old friends while hanging out. The mochas were good, the batch brew decent, and the espresso left a lot to be desired. Overall, it’s a nice place that needs a few more finishing touches on it.
We talked about the Bonavita 1901 and look forward to the Behmor Brazen Plus. Mike talked his parents out of buying a regular coffee maker and to instead invest their money into the Bonavita. They listened. For Christmas, I got Mike the Behmor and we’ll have to wait and see if it makes it under the tree until the 25th of December. My bet is it won’t.
Mike talked about deep cleaning the Aillio Bullet R1, the roaster that’s been bearing the brunt of our coffee roasting since we semi-retired the Behmor 1600+. Mike normally keeps things clean, and the roaster is no exception. But this was a much needed deep clean that involved taking every piece apart. It seems the darker you roast, the more frequently you’ll need to deep clean your equipment to get the deposited oils off the gears, impellers, etc.
As far the new Coffee Review jingle goes, Mike told us he liked it. Well, not really- he felt embarrassed by it. That means it’s a keeper.
Lastly, we get into some of the business decisions we’ve been making with regards to selling coffee, trying to make our online store better, and ensuring we deliver on ‘Christmas in the Mail’ when we receive an order.
