In Episode 73, Mike and I talked about Handsome Her, the cafe in Melbourne, Australia that presents itself as a feminist cafe that is by women and for women. I talked about this cafe in the Daily Ristretto, and gave my opinion of it. I wanted to get Mike’s take on the 18% tax due to the mythical gender wage gap they charge men. The wage gap is firmly debunked by both Thomas Sowell and Christina Hoff Sommers, but I don’t really want to argue about that.
I’d rather bring attention to another cafe doing great work for a local cause, the subject of our Coffee Experience: Step One Coffee. They support a women’s and children’s shelter in Yavapai County. We had a Cubano (sugar infused espresso), a mocha, and a pour-over. We really enjoyed not only the coffee, but the customers and the staff.
We continued with out conversation about batch brew vs pour over coffee, as Keys to the Shop did a follow up episode to their initial great conversation about the battle between the two.
In Coffee History, we read some more from Kevin Sinnott’s great book The Art and Craft of Coffee. It’s great and we highly recommend it.
