Manny G joins us on the show again, and Mike takes us straight into dangerous territory by tackling the topic of “gentrification,” as reported by LA Weekly and the story about Weird Wave in Boyle Heights. Manny was previously on as a guest in episode 50.
Manny tells us he’s roasting coffee and starting a boutique roaster called Uplift Coffee. He’s got an email capture page up at uplift.coffee, and I twisted his arm into committing to getting his coffee available for the public by October 15th.
For our Coffee Review (sort of), Manny G talked about his experience ordering coffee from Old Bisbee Roasters. He hasn’t tried it yet, but it showed up spoiled in the mail. Manny also dropped some serious USPS shipping truth on us, by letting us know you can get free shipping materials sent to your home. Mind blown.
I recounted a recent Coffee Experience with Black Dog Coffee in Prescott, AZ. Mike also brought me a ‘Mocha Freeze’ from YellowLeaf Coffee, made with hot shots instead of cold brew.
Manny also goes in to roasting coffee, talking about his drop temp for the Ethiopian bean he’s trying to dial in right now. Also, we talk about packaging, including the new double sided printing boxes from Packlane. I really love packaging, and Manny gives us some advice about how to keep our boxes unique.
