So… right off the bat- this episode went long. I’m sorry about that for most of you, and for Manny- you’re welcome. Love ya buddy!
In episode 60, Mike and I talked about the origin of the Orange Cactus in Orange Cactus Coffee. During my time in the Marine Corps, specifically at Christmas in the Seychelles, I came up with the idea for the Orange Cactus Coffee business. It included roasting on site and focusing on espresso based beverages with whole number pricing. I gave up on that dream and blame nobody but myself. If you’re listening to the doubters and haters, it’s time for you to get back on your dreams as well.
Manny G Recommended the Home-Barista.com forum and active community. He loves buying and selling used coffee equipment on the site and getting advice from other members. This is the site that Manny scored his Baratza Vario grinder from.
Our Coffee Review was from Brandywine Coffee Roasters. We really enjoyed a naturally processed Ethiopian bean. We also liked how their bags and brand all stay on theme. The have wax seals that they used to close their bags decoratively. They include the sealer and the ziplock top, but they also have a very cool wax stamp that totally goes with their bags. mike called them whimsical and throwback and I added a flavor of artsy-fartsy to it. Their shipping was not on theme at all.
Mike suggested the sun was turned off and back on as we were recording our podcast
For our Coffee Experience, Mike told of his trip to the Raven cafe and I told stories about Thanks a Latte and Step One Coffee. I have to add this correction to my stories- the Italian Sodas and smoothie were great at Step One, and we had to throw away the drinks from Thanks a Latte. Step One used coffee beans from our friend Rich at Prescott Coffee Roasters.
Mike also wanted to shout out to Dave from Smuggler’s Coffee for all the encouragement and help dialing in the Aillio Bullet R1 roaster. We also ask the question if we should leave cards at the cafes we visit that let them know they’ve been reviewed. We would love to hear your thoughts about it.
