In episode 57, Mike and I talked about his journey into Specialty Coffee and what drove him to want to start this coffee podcast, roast coffee, and start a coffee business. It had been a while since we talked about it that I thought it would help to give a little re-cap of who Mike is and what he’s trying to accomplish. So, Mike shared his coffee journey with us, and how that culminated in talking me into starting this Orange Cactus Coffee venture.
Mike’s journey included Blue Bottle Coffee, so we used that to roll into our Coffee Legend segment about James Freeman, the founder of Blue Bottle Coffee. We looked at James’ book The Blue Bottle Craft of Coffee, and highly recommended getting that book if you don’t have it already. It’s a great read.
Manny G Recommended the Dragon brewer, an expensive, eclectic looking device whose creator claims a great cup of coffee is within everyone’s reach with this complex device. Did I mention it was expensive as well? Regardless, the video is a fun watch.
Our Coffee Review was a single origin Ethiopian from Jim a Bishop Woods Coffee and the Holler Mountain blend from Stumptown. Jim sent us some coffee to review, which we gladly did, and I bought the Stumptown coffee at Boss Coffee in North Scottsdale, which is also the Coffee Experience.
