Mike and I recorded video for our audio podcast in order to try the Elixir Project coffee we received in the mail recently. We tried to make a concerted effort to describe what we’re looking at, and hope we did a good job. We also waited to try it until we could record, so we taste it on the air for you. This special coffee was made from beans roasted by Scott Rao. That version of the Elixir is sold out.
We try to fix Elixir’s sales slogan for them: “Looks like whiskey, feels like tea, unlike any, other coffee.” Bam. Done. Took care of that for them. And not only that, we read their website and fix some of their grammatical errors for them. That’s how we do. No extra charge.
Elixir is not cheap, but after tasting it we determine it is good- the best cold brew that is not a cold brew. It is most certainly worth checking out and deciding for yourself- it’s good to try and maybe make a staple of your cold brew drinking habits. We preferred the 18 over the 14 as far as the flavor profile goes. Mike wanted to drink Elixir with a burger on a hot day at a BBQ like an iced tea, and I want to use it in mixed drinks.
Manny G Recommended courses in coffee from coffeecourses.com. Mike started the free course on roasting profiles, but the majority of the courses are paid content. If you sign up for a membership, you save money over buying the courses individually. We messed up the recording, because Mikey was right- Valerian from the Coffee is Me podcast is involved with the coffee courses content. These course introduced me to Giesen Roasters.
For our Coffee Experiences, we talked about our experiences with Yellow Leaf Coffee. We got a wow experience in addition to speed, efficiency, and profitability that the double drive thru coffee stand is set up for. The barista was a master at her craft of customer service, and it was an honor to watch her work and be on the receiving end of craftsmanship.
For our Coffee Update, we talked about our cupping experience with a Costa Rican bean we’re trying to dial in as the next Saguaro. It wasn’t ready in time for this to air. We also revealed that we pulled the trigger on the Aillio Bullet R1 roaster. The order has been placed and it’s on its way. We’re big fans and excited to take this next step in our roasting and specialty coffee journey with you. Black Stripe Coffee and Smugglers Coffee are two pioneers are roasters/coffee bands that we look up to as being ahead of us in they journey.
