Mike and I talked about the Monsooned Malabar coffee we received from Ghostly Roaster and we brewed it in a Chemex 6-Cup brewer. I shared the rest of my Press Coffee experience. After the cupping, I visited one of their cafes in Tempe. I wrote about the cafe experience as well. Press Coffee was running a Synesso espresso machine.
Manny G Recommends: Manny G recommended the Aeropress to us. There’s even a World Aeropress Championship. We love this championship because the champions share their recipes, methods ,and coffee that they use and you can duplicate.
Brew Tip of the Week: Chris Baca, from Cat & Cloud coffee shared a video that suggested keeping your pour over brew time to three minutes. So, if you brew more cups and add more water, you need to coarsen your coffee grind and shoot for the same brew time. If you’ve experienced with this, please share your results with us in the comments below. Update on this- I’ve tried the Chris Baca method of coarsening the grind and shooting for a four minute brew time and had success with it in the Chemex and the Hario V60.
We also talked about Cold Brew, including Press Coffee’s Cold Brew and Steep 18’s Cold Brew. I develop the theory that bad cold brew coffee makes good protein shakes and great cold brew makes a bad protein shake. Lastly, we talk about the sweet soda machines that let you pick soda and syrup flavors as well.
